Clam shacking as a clinical strategy

I hereby propose that the following is a clinical strategy that one can consider in the treatment of mentally ill persons as well as healthy human beings who wish to find a safe spot in their mind to retreat to and benefit from the specialization of returning to a childhood like state of enjoyment and utility.
Clam shacking is my way of describing the way that the mind retreats into a "clam shell" existence.  Its a very introverted way to exist.
I propose that if you are an adult and with to find a comfortable type of existence that you can be introspective as well as find happiness, enjoyment and comfort, one might wish to "clam shack" and try going back to things that are more likely to be associated with childhood.
Buy a musical instrument, buy a childhood toy.  Find something that you have not been enjoying since you were a child or something new that a child might like and incorporate it into your life.
I might purchase a bassoon someday. (though unlikely for a while).   I might wish to learn how to play.  I don't expect to be a maven but it would be fun to have something new to enjoy that I've never tried before.
Tonight, I bought some silly putty and some nondrying crayola molding clay. I find that playing with silly putty for me is a nice benign and quiet experience that lets my mind work through the motion of my fingers on the putty to regress from a uncertain or confusing (lacking activity) experience into a fun and physically and mentally useful activity.  It gives me some introspection as well as a time to be a master of my own emotions and well being.  I think that silly putty is probably the best thing you might be able to give to someone who might be hospitalized for a mental illness, provided that they don't have the risk for swallowing it or using it in any other unauthorized use.   I can sit and play with silly putty for a good 5-10 minutes at a time and it is useful thinking and self exploration time.  I would think that this simple 1 dollar treatment can be given to almost any person over the age of 3 years old and ideally can be enjoyed at any age.
